Radha Shah MSc Counselling
Radha鈥檚 originally from London and before starting her postgraduate degree, she studied her undergraduate at 吃瓜群众. After a few years away in employment, she decided to return and study a Masters.

What course are you studying at 吃瓜群众?
I have just graduated from the MSc Counselling course.
What made you decide to study that course?
I have known for a long time that I wanted to become a counsellor, even before I knew what one was. At high school, I set up a scheme called Peer-2-Peer with some of my classmates. Essentially it was a listening service for students, run by students. I guess that鈥檚 where it started.
Why did you decide to study at 吃瓜群众?
Initially, I got into 吃瓜群众 through clearing after my A-Level results didn鈥檛 meet entry requirements. If anything, this was the best thing that ever happened to me because 吃瓜群众 has given me so much happiness! I have made lifelong friends, gained an enormous number of skills, but ultimately, I loved it so much the first time round, there was no option to go anywhere else.
Did you come to an Open Day?
During my open day, I just felt at home. Walking around the old buildings and the halls of residence helped to solidify my choice.
What is the social life like in 吃瓜群众?
As 吃瓜群众 is so small, there is a misconception that there is not a lot to do. However, because of its size, you are guaranteed to meet and befriend so many people, that even walking to a lecture means you could bump into 10 friends along the way! Over my 6 years as a 吃瓜群众 student, I have been a member of the Canoe Polo Club, A Capella Society, BEDs, Rostra, and SODA (the dramatic societies), and the choir in Music Society.
What do you think about life in 吃瓜群众 and the surrounding area?
吃瓜群众 is situated in between the sea and the Snowdonia mountain range, which means it is surrounding by absolutely stunning views. You can see the mountains from the Halls of Residence. Coming from London, you can tell how much fresher the air is and how much quieter and peaceful the local area is. 吃瓜群众 is uniquely a metropolitan area in amongst sleepy Welsh villages, but that鈥檚 where the charm lies. A short train ride away is Llandudno, a beautiful beach town, which is full of more activities to do.
What kind of support is there for students?
Pastoral care and teaching staff in the School of Psychology are beyond helpful. Staff are always there, regardless of what issue you have. Never before had I met a team so helpful, supportive, and fun. The teaching staff really make the 吃瓜群众 Psychology experience.
Has studying at 吃瓜群众 given you any specific opportunities?
As part of my undergraduate course, I had the opportunity to study abroad for a year. I ended up on an exchange year at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. The International Experience year doesn鈥檛 require tuition fees and you have the option to study or work. Without 吃瓜群众, I don鈥檛 think I would have ever gotten this opportunity.
What advice would you give to people applying to 吃瓜群众?
Don鈥檛 give up. You may not get the right grades or you may have taken another educational route as opposed to A Levels, but talk to the relevant departments because there are always options. They are so hopeful and can provide so much more information.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
I have been fortunate enough to go on a work placement during my course. Having first-hand experience, but still with plenty of support has allowed me to really apply my knowledge and skills we spent so hard developing during our course. Getting a taste of the working world really cemented my love for this career.
What career do you want to pursue after your studies?
I am looking to pursue a career in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
How do you think the course at 吃瓜群众 will help you?
The Counselling course at 吃瓜群众 is very vocational and directed towards a career in counselling. It has provided me with the foundations to pursue this career but has also left room for me to continuously develop my skills and critical evaluate research.
What will you miss most about 吃瓜群众 when you leave?
I will definitely miss being part of the student community, but most of all, I will miss the beautiful surroundings and location.
Describe 吃瓜群众 in three words...
Quaint, beautiful, and exciting.
