Through a critical examination of historical and contemporary pacifist movements, we will explore key arguments for and against pacifism, addressing issues such as self-defence, the role of violence in protecting human rights, and the tension between moral ideals and political realities. Students will engage with philosophical perspectives from key pacifist thinkers, such as Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi, alongside critiques from just war theorists and realists.
