³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Community Board Meeting (7 October 2024) held at the Council Chambers, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ. In attendance: Representatives from the following bodies/institutions attended the meeting: ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ; Cyngor Gwynedd Council; Adra; Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, North Wales Regional Equality Network (NWREN), ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Council, Storiel, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Cathedral, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Maritime Learning Centre, North Wales Africa Society (NWAS), Mantell Gwynedd, Menter Iaith ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.

Discussion matters: With Professor Andrew Edwards chairing, the following presentations were given: Alan Edwards, on behalf of the Student Services team, provided an overview of the International Student journey. Danielle Williams, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Equalities Officer, presented an update on the progress of the University’s Race Equality Charter application. Darren Morley introduced the ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Legal Advice Clinic which opens later this month. Dr Nia Jones, on behalf of the North Wales Medical School, provided an overview of the Medical School to the group. Further updates were received from ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Maritime Learning Centre, North Wales Africa Society and Mantell Gwynedd.

An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including the success at the National Eisteddfod and the Royal Welsh Show. It was noted that the final IWA event took place on 3 October in Pontio and the University will now start to plan their own events early next year. The Community Fund is expected to be launched in the coming weeks and a new regional partnership, supported by MEDR, will see ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ collaborate with Wrexham University, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and Coleg Cambria on a series of activities over the next 12 months.

Date and time of the next meeting will be arranged for March 2025.

Discussion matters: With Professor Andrew Edwards chairing, the following presentations were given; Martin Hanks - an overview of the work of ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Council; Ingrid Pedersen – ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Corporate Events Officer and the series of public events scheduled over the next few months. Further updates were received from Student Volunteering ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ, Short Courses at ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ, Canolfan Bedwyr, The ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Trade Winds Project, Adra, Storiel, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Cathederal, NWREN, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Menai Bridge Town Council.

An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including the success at the recent Urdd Eisteddfod in Meifod and the forthcoming plans for the National Eisteddfod and Royal Welsh Show. The team are preparing for the final IWA event which will take place on 3 October in Pontio and the Community Fund is expected to be launched early in the 2024/25 academic year.

In attendance: Representatives from the following bodies/institutions attended the meeting: ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ; Cyngor Gwynedd Council; Adra; ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Civic Society; Mantell Gwynedd, Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, Menter Mon, North Wales Regional Equality Network (NWREN), EcoAmgueddfa, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Council.

Discussion matters: With Iwan Williams chairing, the following presentations were given; Martin Hanks - an overview of the work of ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Council; Darren Morley - ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Short Courses; Dr Beth Edwards – A Space for Children and Young People: A Community Consultation; Dr Lori Beckett – Poverty and Learning in Urban Schools project. Further updates were received from Mantell Gwynedd, North Wales Regional Equality Network (NWREN), Ecoamgueddfa, Storiel, ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Civic Society, Adra, Menter Môn, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Students Union Volunteering Body. An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including the success of the recent ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Science Festival and the forthcoming IWA event on the 19th March and an update on the third call of the ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ Community Fund. The fund recently awarded a further 7 projects bringing the total number of projects to 18 since the fund was launched. Date and time of the next meeting will be arranged for June 2024.

Discussion matters: With Professor Andrew Edwards chairing, the following matters were discussed; an overview of Ty Gwyrddfai and how the facility is supporting local communities was given by the Director Customer and Communities at Adra; an update on the work being undertaken by Mantell Gwynedd; a presentation from Dr Marcel Ferrand (Student Support Manager), a recipient of the Civic Engagement Community Collaboration Fund, on how the funds were used to arrange two beach clean-up events with a group of International Students; an update from the Civic Mission team, including the Community Fund, the Community Day and the various events that the team have attended over the summer months. Date and time of the next meeting will be arranged for February 2024.

Discussion matters: With Gwenan Hine chairing, the following matters were discussed; update from Martin Hanks of ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Council and the various developments in and around ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Centre; a presentation from Chris Roberts, North Wales Dragons Football Club, a recipient of the Civic Engagement Community Collaboration Fund; an update on the Parc Y Coleg developments from the Director of Estates and Campus Services; update from the Civic Mission team, including an update on the Community Fund, the Community Day and the various events scheduled over the weeks; Student Volunteering ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ (SVB) gave an overview of some of the projects underway and thanked ³Ô¹ÏȺÖÚ City Council for their continued support; it was noted that Graduation week would be held at the University during 10 – 14 July.
